Greensboro Council was formed in 1918 in Guilford County. With the addition of Randolph County to form a larger council in 1947, the executive board decided to change the name from Greensboro Council to General Greene Council. General Nathaniel Greene was the leader of American forces in 1781 during the Revolutionary War Battle of Guilford Courthouse that took place just north of Greensboro, NC. General Greene Council 418 merged with Uwharrie Council 419 at the end of 1991 to form the Old North State Council 70.
