Council History

Sunny Land Council 724 was organized in 1926 by volunteers from Manatee and Sarasota Counties. At the annual meeting in late 1927, the group from Saratoga County expressed their desire to divide the council "because of financial conditions." The council was split in April 1928 with Sarasota County forming the Sarasota County Council 101 and Manatee County retaining the Sunny Land Council name and Scout Executive. However, by 1932 Sarasota Council was struggling financially and merged back into Sunny Land Council in November. Royal Palm Council 723 from Fort Myers merged into Sunny Land Council in 1937. In 1995, Sunny Land Council 724 merged into Southwest Florida Council 88.
