There are two different stories as to why there is a 74 with a green background and a 74 with a purple background.
1st story is that the patch with the purple background was made for the 1975 Winter Fellowship. The patch making company was told to make the '74 patch but with a purple background. The patch company did. So, the '75 patch was made but with the 74 on it since the company was not told to change it to a 75.
2nd story is that the winter dinner is held in January. At the end of 74, it was decided to have a Christmas party in December and the purple '74 patch was made for it. It was a poorly attended event, so they went back to having the winter dinners in January.
